Heritage Village Event Kicks off Farm City Week
The Pinellas County Farm Bureau will host a Farm City Day celebration on Saturday, Nov. 17, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. This free event, held at Heritage Village, is the kickoff for Farm City Week, celebrated nationally each year during the week leading up to Thanksgiving. It was created to educate citizens about agriculture and to enhance links between rural and urban dwellers.
Hands-on activities include making ice cream from milk, squeezing fresh orange juice, playing olde-time games and making agriculturally inspired arts and crafts. Other activities will include beefo bingo, tropical fish craft, fish printing on T-shirts and bee craft. Carrie Kotal, senior forester with the Florida Division of Forestry, will be at the timber table. There will be lots of giveaways and “make and takes.”
Experienced and budding gardeners are invited to attend a two-hour vegetable gardening workshop beginning at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 17. Planting and growing tips, as well as tips on how to identify and prevent garden pests, will be featured. Handouts will be provided. The workshop fee is $10 each, or $13 for two family members. Fee for Historical Society members is $9 each, or $11 for two family members. Advance registration is required. Please call (727) 582-2233 to register or for further information
