Childs Park YMCA is seeking school supplies for students.

The YMCA will host a school supply giveaway before students return to school from the winter break.

The event is scheduled from 9 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013, at the YMCA, 691 43rd St. S, St. Petersburg.

The giveaway will provide backpacks and other school supplies for elementary through high school students. Several community organizations will also be on hand to provide families with information about programs and services.

At the beginning of each school year, the YMCA distributes school supplies to students. This year, teachers requested a second event due to the high needs of their students, according to Pinellas County School Board member Rene Flowers, a volunteer with the school supplies giveaway program.
