5 Things You Need to Know Today: Coffee, Tea and Live Poetry

There's a 'Coffee with the Curator' in the morning, a Tea Dance in the afternoon and performance poetry in the evening, at Cafe Alma.

1.) Poetry Jam Session: Cafe Alma hosts a twice-monthly performance poetry jam session, with words as instruments. Presented by the group IV Poets, the session combines hiphop, prose and verse in a live performance. The show begins at 9:30 p.m.

2.) Coffee with the Curator: If you really want to know the details about the life and times of Salvador Dali, you can get them straight from the curators of the Dali Museum as part of the "Coffee with the Curator" series. Today's coffee talk–with free Starbucks – is with Vicki Brunner and starts at 10:15 a.m.

3.) And Tea for the Dancers: An old-fashioned tea dance will be held today at the Coliseum from 11:30 to 3. The first hour is for instruction, followed by taped music. But from 1-3, a live band will make the swinging sounds. Admission is $7, $10 if you want dance instruction.

4.) Williams Park Wednesdays: Live music in Williams Park worked so well in September that it's being extended into October. There's free live music from 11:30-1:30 in the downtown park, where it's easy to bring a picnic lunch or to purchase from any of the downtown restaurants nearby.

5.) Buy a Toilet. Get a Rebate:  Did you know that St. Petersburg has a Toilet Replacement Program, which provides up to $100 for each high flow toilet replaced with a low-flow model? City water customers should call 893-7676 to check eligibility and receive an application.
