5 Things You Need to Know Today: Council Meets, Women's Chamber Dines, History Museum Hosts Benefit
If you plan things just right, the entire day and evening can be filled with city events, including a morning Council meeting, Women's Chamber lunch, Happy Hour pre-Blues Fest show and an evening benefit for the History Museum.
1.) Taste of the Blues: The Tampa Bay Blues Festival doesn't officially start until Friday, but the parties start at 6 tonight, at the Witch and the Ale, 111 2nd Ave NE. Local bluesman Damon Fowler plays from 6 to 7:30 at this free event. The actual Blues Festival runs Friday, Saturday and Sunday in Vinoy Park, with headliners Robert Cray, Johnny Lang and Irma Thomas. Find out more at www.tampabaybluesfest.com.
2.) Taste of History: Enjoy local food and drinks from places like Moon Under Water, The Independent and Frescoes and help the St. Petersburg Museum of History at the same time. A Taste of History starts tonight at 6 at the museum, 335 2nd Ave NE. Proceeds help to fund improvements at the museum. Admission is $30, but goes to benefit the museum. 3.) Surreal Movie Night: The Dali Museum will present Alfred Hitchcock's "Spellbound" tonight at 6 in the museum's lobby theater. Admission to the movie is free and you get a deal on a ticket to the museum. Go to www.thedali.org.
4.) Swing Into Spring: The St. Petersburg Women's Chamber of Commerce hosts its annual "Swing Into Spring" luncheon and fashion show. The event will benefit the Florida Orchestra. Guests will be treated to lunch, followed by a fashion show with designs by Suzette’s on the Rocks Boutique, as well as a card party. 5.) City Council: The St. Petersburg City Council meets today at 8:30 am in City Council Chambers at City Hall. The proposed youth curfew is on the agenda, as well as selecting a firm to manage the city-owned Mahaffey Theater.
