1.) A Midsummer Night's Dream: The hot weather makes it feel like midsummer, a good night for the Shakespeare comedy "A Midsummer Night's Dream." It will be presented in a preview performance in the round by the freeFall Theatre, 6099 Central Ave. The show begins at 7. Tickets cost $32-$47 and are available at the theatre box office.
2.) Outdoor Movie Night: The 1991 film, "City Slickers," starring Billy Crystal and Jack Palance, will be presented for free tonight at 7 in North Straub Park, on the waterfront in downtown St. Petersburg. The film is free. You can rent chairs, if you wish, or just bring a blanket. Movies will be presented by St. Pete Preservation each Thursday night in May.
3.) Long Day for City Council: It's going to be a long day for members of the City Council. The day begins with an 8 a.m. meeting of the Budget, Finance and Tax Committee, followed by a Public Services & Infrastructure Committee Meeting at 9:15 a.m., and a meeting of the entire Council at 3 p.m.
4.) Canterbury Softball Advances: The Girls Varsity Softball team at Canterbury School of Floida defeated Central Florida Christian Academy Thursday, 5-4. The team advances to the State Championship Game today at 4 p.m. The game, played at the National Training Center in Clermont, will be broadcast live on Bright House Sports Network, Cable Channel 47.
5.) Grammy-Winning Guitarist: Grammy award-winning guitarist Mark Hanson starts two days in St. Petersburg with a workshop tonight at 7 at the American Stage Theatre, 163 Third St. N. The workshop is $20. He'll give a performance Friday night at the theater. Advance tickets for the performance are $15 and "pay what you can" at the door.
