UPDATE: Man Beaten to Death, Police Say
A homeless man beat his roommate with a baseball bat, the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Michael James Osentoski, 45, was arrested and charged with second degree murder Friday, the Tampa Bay Times reports.
A 52-year-old man was found dead in a garage apartment in St. Petersburg Friday morning.
St. Petersburg Police say Osentoski beat the man with a baseball bat after the two got into an argument over cigarettes, beer and a "disparaging remark about Michael's mother," the Times reports.
"He was bludgeoned to death with a baseball bat," police spokesman Mike Puetz said to the Times.
According to the Tampa Bay Times, Osentoski was living with the 52-year-old man in the garage apartment at 364 Eighth St. N. The Times is not releasing the man's name because family has not been notified of his death, according to the article.
The property owner didn't know the two were living in the garage, the Times reports.
Police say they found a body and "clear signs of homicidal violence" in a St. Petersburg apartment Friday morning.
Detectives are on the scene of the apparent homicide in the 300 block of Eighth Street North, where police were called around 10 a.m. Friday regarding a body found in the garage apartment in the rear of the property.
Officers found the body of a tentatively identified 52-year-old man inside, police spokesperson Mike Puetz said in a media release. The victim's name has not yet been released.
The body was discovered by the victim's roommate when he returned home this morning, police said, and it appears the homicide took place sometime within the previous 12 hours.
No motive or suspects have been identified yet.
