Investigation Into St. Pete Car Crash Involving Deputy
A Pinellas County Sheriff's deputy rear-ended a car last night in unincorporated St. Petersburg, which has spawned a county investigation.
ST. PETERSBURG - Pinellas County Sheriff's deputy Jason Shoulta was treated and released at a local undisclosed hospital after he rear-ended a car Tuesday night while on duty.
Pinellas County Sheriff's Office reports that Shoulta, 43, driving a marked squad car, a 2005 Chevrolet Impala, was traveling west on 54th Ave. North at about 8:20 p.m. when he slammed into the back of a 2006 Honda Odyssey min-van driven by Mark Peer, of the 3700 block of 37th St. North.
Peer, 35, had also been traveling west on 54th Ave. North when he came to a stop in order to turn left onto 37th Street. Shoulta could not yield in time. Neither Peer, nor his three passengers, was injured.
The incident has trigged the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office Major Accident Investigation Team into action to study the cause of the accident further.
