Firefighters Battled Early Morning Apartment Fire

Both the top and bottom apartments were destroyed and damage estimates are $25,000.

St. Petersburg Fire & Rescue responded to a report of a structure fire located at
776 1/2 16th Ave. S. just before 7 a.m. this morning.

Upon arrival to the scene, firefighters found a two-story garage apartment with heavy smoke showing from the roof of the apartment, the news release said.

Neighbors told firefighters that they smelled smoke and went out to check and found the garage apartment on fire. District Chief Neil Crumity directed fire crews as they extinguish the blaze, the news release said.

Crumity said that both the top and bottom apartments were destroyed.

Fire investigators are still on scene to determine the cause and origin of the fire. There were no injuries and no one was living in the structure at the time of the fire.

Damage estimates are at 25,000, the news release said.
