Florida Delegates Talk Issues, Obama at DNC
Local delegates Alison Bereke Marano and Shannon Love said the Republican Party is doing a great service to Obama campaign by being ignorant.
Florida delegates attending the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, N.C., talked politics with South Carolina Patch Political Editor Shawn Drury on Monday.
Last week, Ann Romney and Condoleezza Rice made an appeal to women voters during last week's Republican National Convention in Tampa.
Alison Bereke Morano and Shannon Love talked about what President Barack Obama needs to do to reach out to women voters and to win their votes.
"The Republicans are doing a great service by being so ignorant," Morano said. "And by showing their disregard for women and what they think we are actually about."
Morano is the vice-chair of the Florida Democratic Party and lives in Pasco County.
Love said that she didn't feel the gap in female voters exists the way the Republican Party thinks it does.
Love is the President of the Pinellas County Young Democrats, and is from St. Petersburg.
"You look at how women have played a key role in the Democratic Party and particularly in President Obama's (administration), they've been there every step of the way," Love said.
Love said she thinks that the Republican Party tried to show their leaders in their party last week, by having Ann Romney and Rice speak at the convention.
"I think at the same time, there was also a base that was fundamentally stronger and will fundamentally turn out to vote for the Democratic Party," Love said.
Small business has become an underlying theme during both conventions.
Morano, who is a small business owner in Tampa, said that a couple of months ago she took a group of other small business leaders to the White House on a listening tour.
Morano said it was an opportunity for administrative officials in the Obama camp to find out what the different needs are for small business owners.
"A group of those same administrators came to Orlando and we had around 600 people in that room," Morano said. "They don't talk at you and lecture you."
Morano said they offered solutions and advice to businesses and each person left with a number to directly contact them in the future.
In 2008, voters were energized about casting ballots, especially young voters. Love said that this election needs that same energy, but there are underlying issues.
"Early 20s and out of college, you need to know that you can afford to make student loan payments and not have to file bankruptcy to deal with student loans," Love said. "I need to know that I can afford to get a living wage job."

I hope Romney and other elected republicans will work to expose the U.N. for what they really are and to extricate the U.S. from the organization itself, thus restoring our national sovereignty.
“Social justice” means the abolition of private property. Here’s an excerpt from a report published at the U.N.’s Habitat I Conference in 1976:
Land…cannot be treated as an ordinary asset, controlled by individuals and subject to the pressures and inefficiencies of the market. Private land ownership is also a principal instrument of accumulation and concentration of wealth and therefore contributes to social injustice; if unchecked, it may become a major obstacle in the planning and implementation of development schemes. The provision of decent dwellings and healthy conditions for the people can only be achieved if land is used in the interest of society as a whole.
It’s not fair that individuals own land or property. What will make it fair is if it is collectively owned. The United Nations wants to mandate global communism. They just don’t call it that. They call it “social justice.” And they’re going to execute “social justice” through “sustainable development.”

Oh! We are ignorant? It doesn’t matter how many people show up, listen, get brainwashed and get a number to call so liberals can tell you anything to get your vote. Where is the substance? Is this country better off now than it was 4 years ago and do you really think it will get any better with 4 more years of failed policy? Are we freer or more secure with our nation in debt to China and no plan for energy and security independence? Plus, it doesn’t matter if you are a man or a woman when the liberals rip our American Constitution to shreds. It’s about everyone’s freedom. Liberals created the war on women as another distraction. The GOP is not at war with birth control, abortion, gay marriage or anything else the liberals keep bringing up. We believe in freedom period. We do not want these issues shoved down our throats and into our lives when we don’t believe that way and vice-versa. If any organization doesn’t support something you believe in then don’t support that organization, but give that organization the freedom and right to believe it based on our Constitution and do not force anyone to bend to another’s will. In the end, freedom gives you a choice between Democrat, (Big Government, Big Debt, Big Control, Big Sellout to the U.N.) or Republican, (Big Freedom, Big Independence, Big American Exceptionalism). Which ideal has created the American Dream? Choose wisely.

aaron, so there have only be 4 years of failed policies not 12 years of failed policies. My bad, I just read data and look at facts. Liberals are ripping the Constitution to shreds, really... anyone remember the Patriot Act. The single greatest liberty stripping legislation in US History. As far is GOP not at war again birth control, abortion, and gay marriage. Then why do they keep bringing it up on Camera. If they didn't say anything it wouldn't be an issue. But it comes out of their mouths, it's not dubbed over. If they didn't mention shutting down Planned Parenthood (Romney), Rape a Method of Conception (Ryan), and that a Federal Law to ban Gay Marriage (Romney) if elected. These were not from questions asked, but campaign speeches.
Also your descriptions of the two parties very humorous. Both parties are big government it's just if you choice to pay attention or not. I may be wrong, we were in massive debt before January 21, 2009, Oh we were? So a Democrat must have been in office from 2001-2008 right? It was a Republican, that can't be true because the Democrats are the "Big Debt" party.
Wake up... You need to stop watching propaganda, both parties got us into this mess. Quit believe tag lines. Who tells you they are not for big government, oh the GOP marketing team. It is posts like yours the blind faith in one party that got us in this mess.

The anti-abortion legislation proposed by the GOP in Virginia (and passed in many other states) stipulates a vaginal probe be used on women prior to an abortion even when their doctors do not agree it is necessary. Aaron, you would not think the GOP is for anyone's freedom if you were a woman. And, Aaron, if you look at the actual budget proposals by Rep Ryan, vp candidate, you would not believe the GOP has anything to do with creating the American Dream for anyone other than billionaires.

You mean like the democrats Frank, Dodd, Waters, Raines and other democrats that said in 2003 that there wasn't a problem with Fannie & Freddie when Bush warned but couldn't get democrats to go along. Again in 2006 Bush & McCain both warned they were going down and they still wouldn't budge.

Mary, Fannie and Freddie were the only reason that banks were giving out bad loans. Deregulation couldn't also be a portion of it, or do you only want to look at the half that the democrats are blamed for. Kind of like Fox News/MSNBC only shows half the history of things to show their point of view. The "housing bubble" was bi-partisan. There are many, many people to be blame on both sides for that mess. And it is also not the full reason we are in the economic mess we are in today. Partisanship on both sides has hurt our government for 15 years. Instead of working together to fix the big issues we tend to divide ourselves on the small ones. Example being you only bring up the portion you consider the Democrats at fault for, but not the other things that also contributed it from the Republican Held House Decisions. Our Government doesn't work in a vaccum.

Yes, because Obama is a hard line socialist. Labels by conserviate media, just as much as a Romney is a 1%er label by liberal media. They are all just labels and propaganda sources like what you have up there just continue to use them. Liberal side has them to, and they are just as bad.

based on a book with an author who hasn't met Obama. And when factual information disputes in "facts" he refuses to acknowledge. The movie is just another propaganda piece like Michael Moore's Freinheit 9/11. It is based on opinions not facts. So if you believe in opinions over facts. And want to believe an agrument that is based on assumptions of a Conservative Scholar who also said that he understands why Al-Kahda (spelling) ran planes into the towers (quoted in his own writings and now tries to pretend he didn't say it). Then yes... it's quite an eye-opener.

Democrats are using women to distract from their real agenda "One World Government". Instead of listening to pretty speeches people need to check what's going on in the world. Most are to lazy and can't pull themselves away from the games and movies.

The ability to think for yourself and make good deductions requires an inquisitive mind that bases its inquiry on facts not emotions. Blindfolded loyalty to a particular party as always being right is already wrong. Die hard Republicans are the same as Die Hard Democrats. What difference is there between Islam and Christianity that a few thousand years wouldn't make them the same. A zealot is a zealot regardless of for whom he is a zealot. He will still give himself up for his belief and be more than willing to take you with him. Pass the kool-aid. See yourself in your opposite and you will be the wiser.

Um, please don't perpetuate this "zealots" on "both sides" false equivalence. It's abundantly clear who the nutter extremists are, and there is nothing analogous to them anywhere else on the political spectrum.

"We are all in this together." Words are misleading and some women aren't smart enough to see they are being used to distract. Do yourself a favor and check out "Agenda 21" a plan that was instituted years ago and they finally got the right one in the WH to make it happen.

"We are all in this together", A phrase that is not just words. The Ledbetter Fair Pay Act, the attention paid to and increased funds for veterans, the Affordable Care Act are actions that support the use of the phrase by President Obama. Instead of reading some trumped up conspiracy literature, read the current platforms of the two parties.
