UPDATE: Gunshot Victim Dies at St. Petersburg Hospital
A 21-year-old woman who was dropped off Friday morning at Bayfront Medical Center has died, a St. Petersburg Police spokesperson said.
St. Petersburg Police say Felicia Celeste Vickers, 21, of St. Petersburg, died around 3:30 Friday at Bayfront Medical Center.
Vickers was dropped off early Friday morning by several unidentified people, police say.
Detectives believe Vickers was a passenger in a car with several other individuals. They had stopped in the 500 block of 26th Avenue South when one of the occupants of the car Vickers was in became involved in argument with another individual standing outside the vehicle, police say.
That subject produced a gun and fired into the car striking Vickers. Vickers
was then driven to the hospital and dropped off by the other occupants who
drove off before police arrived, according to Police spokesperson Mike Puetz.
The vehicle Vickers was in has since been located and impounded for forensic
processing. The occupants of the car have also been located and interviewed by
The suspect is described as a black male in his late teens, but no arrests have been made as yet. The investigation is still ongoing.
Detectives are investigating an attempted homicide after a woman suffering from a life-threatening gunshot wound was dropped off at a St. Petersburg hospital early Friday morning.
The 21-year-old woman was dropped off at Bayfront Medical Center by several unidentified people around 12:45 a.m. Friday and is in critical condition, officials said.
Homicide detectives from St. Petersburg Police have since discovered the shooting occurred somewhere near 26th Avenue South and Fifth Street, police spokesperson Mike Puetz said. They have also recovered the vehicle believed to have been used to drop the victim off at the hospital.
Information is still being gathered, "but detectives do believe that narcotics were a contributory factor in this case, "Puetz said.
