EDGE Farmers Market has been in the works since April, 2012. July 1st was the first day of official business for the group of organizers. The market is open every Sunday and Wednesday from 8 a.m. until 12 p.m. It is located at 1000 Central Ave.
Jamie McWade, Marketing Manager for the market, says that EDGE is different than other weekly offerings because every vendor must be organic. “Only organic and locally grown items can be held at our market,” said McWade.
The idea for the market came from manager, Jessica Arkwright and artist, Geff Strik. Strik opened his gallery on Central as the space for the market to be held in.
Unlike other markets, EDGE features food as the main event. From produce and grass fed meats to fresh eggs and raw honey, the new farmer’s market has items to fit all tastes and diets.
With a team of organizers in place, EDGE Farmers Market seems to have a solid blueprint for their future on Central Ave. In the fall, they will team up with a local farm to host evening markets. The change will “shake things up a bit,” according to McWade.
On July 28th, EDGE will be hosting a Art and Music Festival. The event will be complete with a scavenger hunt for locals, a beer tasting by Rally and live music.
The scavenger hunt is $10 per team of six and groups can register online by emailing Market@EDGEFarmersMarket.com or at the door (cost is $15 at the door). From 1 p.m. until 3p.m. the teams will register and go on their hunts and by 4 p.m. the winners of the competition will be announced.
For those who wish to attend the event only, it is free and open to the public.
