Residents Petition White House For Florida To Secede From U.S.

On the official website of the White House is a facility opening a petition on any issue that you feel needs addressing. What would you like to petition the U.S. Government to do?

While the presidential election is the only true national referendum, petitions are well and alive. And no, this petitition has nothing to do with the St. Petersburg Pier.

Actually, a few folks in Florida are petitioning the President Barack Obama White House to allow Florida to break off from the United States government and become its own nation. Hey, Puerto Rico is waiting to take Florida's place, so no need to change the amount of stars on the flag, so there's that.

The Obama White House offers citizens the opportunity to file a petition on its official website. Several people have already opened petitions asking other people to join them in asking for a variety of issues to be considered by the administration. Included in those petitions gaining popularity are a couple relating to Japan’s territorial issues.

For Florida's issue, 1,343 signatures were collected as of Sunday afternoon. Here's what the petition asks:

We the people of the great state of Florida, do see that in today's world the Federal Government has not led our citizens justly and with honor. We therefore as free men and women of our great state do believe that it is time to take matter upon ourselves to ensure our continued freedom, and to enact our own laws and here buy govern ourselves without the federal government's involvement in our internal matters from this day forward.

They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety.

The goal for that petition is 25,000, which is essentially hoping that a town about the size of Venice would say yes and kick off the movement for the whole state, so realistically, we'll put the chances of that happening near zero percent.

A similar petition requested that the state of Louisiana be allowed to peacefully withdraw from the United States of America and create its own new government, as well.

The other Florida-based petition asks the White House to legalize marijuana in the state of Florida, which would really be a state-based issue and vote, but would ultimately needed to be decriminalized by the federal government for any state measure to truly take hold. That petition collected 799 signatures out the 25,000 goal.

Another one though not local, sure wouldn't be met with open arms in Ybor City as the petition asks the FDA to regulate premium cigars.

At last count, more than 30,500 people had digitally signed that petition.

If they have the appropriate passports let-em buy a ticket for some "better place" and don't let the door hit'em in the ass.

Any change to Florida's constitution would take roughly 13 million affirmative votes. And can anyone imagine patrolling our borders with GA & AL, not to mention boaters along the coast? And what about the immigrants we now call snowbirds? Then there would be a hefty income tax. And what would Bill Young say?

Relax. The USA is simply joining the rest of the World. Geez!

Letting Florida secede is a good idea if Puerto Rico then becomes a state because then we won't have to buy new flags.

Maybe they could go to Texas becasue it is talking the same talk now...and then if they both go, then to paraphrase a Texas bragging line...''it would be a whole new country''. Personally, I'd like to see California and some places up around Massechusettes (i can't spell that, lol) go along also. Also, how about they leave St Pete behind? ''Please Mr Custer, I don't wanna go...''

Let them leave and they will give up their citizenship and all the money that comes from being part of the Union, and they can call their new land "White Trash Land"!!!

Mike, from Marine to Marine, you signed a contract and everything that you have put on here is contradictory to what you signed up for. You are basically committing treason by talking about the your Commander in Chief in such a derogatory manner. Idk what your rank is but you should look over your promotion warrant. The Marine Corps is better than this and you're doing three Marines a true disservice.

Michael J, Marine to Marine, Semper FI, and I did get a bit out of hand yesterday. CJ pointed that out to me and I thank her for that. You and CJ sound like great people and reasonable. Let me clarify, I was a Corporal E-4 Vietnam 1968, Military Police Stateside, Motor T Chief in 'Nam. Ran Convoys all over I-Corps and to the DMZ. Oncea Marine always a Marine Michael. I just don't like what Obama is doing to our country and by the end of next it will be bad. Thank You for your service Michael J.

Who you calling ''her'' you pickle suited jarhead....lol? Retired US Army here. Self Propelled Howitzer crewman here..13BM5...and CJ was exactly what my shirt said...lol. No women do that MOS. I retired out myself well over 20 years ago. I was not a very well behaved soldier, and the ladies got me in plenty of trouble, though.
You are fine, Mike...I am here just to lighten things up and mess with all the people around here that like to cause trouble on these local blogs. It's something to do for laughs. Frankly, I find you amusing. It's people like you that I am glad will be on my side if this liberal ''Revolution'' ever pops up. One thing good about this election...it has pointed out very clearly who the enemy will be if we all start rioting in the streets over restoring conservative civility again.
Thank you for the respectful way you responded back on your oneryness (is that a word?)...but I read you loud and clear...and would have your back any day.
God bless all Marines for the way they have made the Army's work easier.

Not to mention, Mike, you sound a little racist. Idk you so I'm making an observation. If you didn't see the Food for Thought segment in the news, there are more white people on food stamps than any other race.

Michael J, no I am not a rascits, no no no.... clarifying yesterday, I am a Marine from Vietnam 1968, E-4, Military Police Stateside, Motor T Chief with a 4 duce Mortar Unit
BLT 2/26, Whiskey Battery. I did get out of hand yesterday and I thank you and CJ for pointing that out. You both sound reasonable and like good people. My BAD yesterday! I am worried about our country and I think Obama will destroy it.....

I am not a racist either, but I hate it when you can't say something negative about another person without racist being falsly accused. I know what racism is...and all I have seen here is people talking their mind. What do you call 9 out of 10 blacks voting for Obama? I know what I call it, and it begins with the letter ''R''.

I don't like Obama either...but I truly worry about whether he will last 4 years before something bad happens to him. I hate to say it, but the mix is not good right now. I hope his secret service has their mind on the girls less and are now on top of their job protecting him. I may not like him, but I don't want the see the unthinkable happen to him, either. I fear that many issues that need changed ''now'' are going to get so bad after another 4 years of him...that it puts our nation in danger to a degree it has not seen for a very long time. We are very vulnerable right now. 4 more years of Obama and we will be even easier picking. I am sure our enemies are taking note. Many of our enemies are rather undefined compared to some others. it is more important than ever to have a strong military right now, but it is going the other direction. People, especially liberals, underestimate the nuke threat world wide. I worked with the nuke weapons (NBC/Special Weapons) while in...I know things. I knew back when the Pershing's/etc were being taken apart and the silo's filled it would not be long before we would be right back in a cold war. We are getting there. It won't be so easy and simple to ever get rid of the nukes again. Even Reagan would not like that task in today's world. Too many people have them and/or are getting them now. I know many scenarios that are quite scary on how they could play out. Liberals worry about too many things that don't mean a thing for our safety.

Hey CJ, sorry for the Her... Thank you for your service and I to got your back. Michael J being a Marine has to understand that we have a President that has stepped all over the Constitution and I do not like that. We are losing our country right before our eyes. Do you remember when Obama was in a Muslim Coluntry and telling them that the USA is no longer a Christian Nation and then went on to apologize for us being the nation we are.... Good lord CJ, what is going on?

Janet Lynn Fuller Marquis, never sign a Petition like this. The corrupt Government will never leave you alone...Texas would like to leave the Union and Texas is very capable of sustaining on its own. The only thing is it would take a Armed Revolution to actually leave and if that ever happens I will go to Texas. This won't take place though....

Mike...after the hurt the liberals put on me this past week...your comment was the funniest thing I read all week...and i needed a laugh. They have been the most unfriendly group of voters I have ever seen my entire life of 40 years or more of voting...and they are doing the dirty in their pants with glee right now rubbing in their shallow victory. How can anyone be so delighted with the country so divided? This just sucks that too many conservative sat on their lazy azzes on election. Guess they were more tired because more of them work. Something needs to be done to quit handing over election results to the liberals. When Romney had to decide between Rubio or Ryan on who to pick for his running mate...I bet it was a hard choice. Both are good men. I was proud of Romney for not picking Rubio simply to get more of the undecided votes. In hindsight, though...it probably cost Romney a victory. What a sad statement that make about how racist the Obama win was. The leader of Iran said of the Obama win that America lets it's minorities and special interest groups rule it. I have never liked anything the man said before, but he was right about that.

Mike. Just yesterday I read about a school district that ''banned'' the national anthem at the beginning of events. That's what is going on..and it needs to stop. When the revolution starts...lol...just come on by my house in your pick-up truck and I will grab my arsenal and hop in the back with the huge amount of other people ready for this fight...and let's go thin out a few people. The libs are the ones asking for this showdown...and Obam thrives seeing this hiddeen agenda fall slowly in place. There is the old saying...be carefuyl what you ask for or you may get your wish. The next riots our country sees are going to be about a lot more than the race of a person.

Virtually this whole stream of comments were so very difficult to read....and it opened my eye to how so many people need to have an enemy in order for themselves to feel empowered. There is virtually nobody that I know who is either all-liberal or all-conservative....yet most of these posts are about the "other side" being to blame. Most Americans are moderate as evidenced by the swing of the registered democrats to Reagan in the past and the present day Latin republicans whom have swung back to the democratic party. All in all, the most disturbing part of all this is the emphasis on one person, albeit the president. Nobody has ulitmate control or power over us. Congress has as much or more power than the president and we all have the power to congregate peacefully and engage in civic dialogue and action to change things. It's called democracy and it works from the neighborhood street, to the city we call home, to the state, and then the nation. My gosh, it's time to restore a bit of faith in ourselves and in the immediate world around us and to turn off the constant onslaught of the media adding fuel to the fire of the fears that people like on this blog....are expressing.
