A century ago, the magnificent Titanic ship sunk after colliding with an iceberg in the Atlantic. More than 1,500 lives were lost as well as countless artifacts.

On Saturday, you can see the treasures recovered at the Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition. The exhibit runs through March 3, 2013, at the Mahaffey Theater in St. Petersburg. 

Inside the exhibit you'll see artifacts that have not been displayed previously in Tampa Bay, including plates, coal, clothing and much more. 

According to the Mahaffey, the galleries focus on the legendary Titanic’s compelling human stories as best told through authentic artifacts recovered from the ocean floor. There also are extensive room re-creations. 

“This is a rare opportunity to view these historic pieces,” said Joe Santiago, General Manager at The Mahaffey in a news release. “It took a monumental effort to recover the artifacts, including seven trips to the wreckage located 2.5 miles beneath the Atlantic. This exhibit combines that technical story with the human drama that makes the Titanic tragedy such a well-known event.” 

The exhibit will also showcase actors portraying individuals who were on the ship on the fateful day of April 15, 1912.

Patrons will also travel through re-created first and third class cabins and get the chance to put their hands against a freezing iceberg.

Visitors to the exhibit will receive a replica boarding pass granting them permission to “board” the White Star Line's R.M.S. Titanic;  from there, the journey begins.

Advance tickets for the exhibition are on sale now for $19.12 to commemorate the year of the Titanic's unsuccessful voyage.
