Is Violent Crime Down in St. Pete?
FBI released crime statistics for the first half of 2012 on Jan. 14. Violent crimes in the 'Burg are down.
The FBI released crime statistics last week that show violent crime was down slightly in St. Pete for the first half of 2012 compared to 2011.
For the first half of 2012 there were six murders compared to 13 in 2011. Overall violent crimes fell from 1,298 to 1,119. The only two crime categories that increased in St. Pete were property crime and larceny-theft.

According to the FBI, nationally, violent crime numbers were mixed.
"Two of the four offenses in the violent crime category actually showed overall decreases when compared with data from the first six months of 2011—murders dropped 1.7 percent and forcible rapes fell 1.4 percent. But the number of robberies increased 2.0 percent and aggravated assaults 2.3 percent."
