If you're interested in the health and management of the county’s inland water resources, sign up for this program at Weedon Island Preserve.
Registration is limited to 80 people. The registration deadline is May 15.
Bring in any aquatic plant and some pond water in a self-sealing plastic bag for experts to identify. You also can take home native aquatic plants (bring a plastic bag for transportation), wildflowers, groundcovers, shrubs and trees.
In addition, this program features a three-hour workshop focusing on the best management practices of lakes and stormwater ponds. Other information includes landscaping buffer gardens (used to protect waterways from erosion), aquascaping (the use of aquatic plants), the ecology of mangroves, and a citizens’ project on the restoration of a community pond. Booths, displays, and refreshments will be available.
There also will be raffle items including water test kits, waders, trash pickers, and educational material.
Call the numbers below or send an e-mail to register.
