"Twilight on the Town" Historic Walking Tour

Central Cafe & Organics, 243 Central Ave, Saint Petersburg, FL | Get Directions »
$5.00

St. Petersburg Preservation presents this roughly 90-minute tour of downtown history and architecture, starting at Central Cafe & Organics and ending at The Ale & The Witch.

See some of the best of downtown's 1920's boom-era architecture, find out how a small town at the turn of the century created one of the largest waterfront parks in the country, and hear stories about how sunshine, bathing beauties and sports were used to market St. Pete as a destination, organizers say.

Locals looking for healthy choices in food items can find them in the heart of downtown. Central Cafe & Organics has fresh vegetables, and its breads are baked with high quality ingredients. Focused on providing its patrons with healthy meals, its menu varies depending on the availability of organic supplies. Even some wines and beers offered here are organic. The cafe serves espressos, lattes, cappuccinos along with smoothies and juices. There is outdoor seating on the sidewalk. Gluten-free and vegan products also available for purchase. A neat feature of Central Cafe & Organics is that it shares an adjacent courtyard where customers can relax and enjoy their food.

Wait a minute. Sunshine, bathing beauties, and sports were used to market St. Petersburg just in the 1920's??? What has changed between then and now? Doesn't St. Petersburg still call itself "The Sunshine City"? Are you really offering a history lesson or the playbook for today's market plan?
