Goodwill Relocates Bookstore

Sarasota bibliophiles will have a larger bookstore to shop at

Goodwill Manasota will relocate its bookstore on 5880 Bee Ridge Rd. to 5831 Derek Ave. in Sarasota.  Goodwill invites shoppers and donors to the grand opening celebration of the new bookstore on Thursday, May 8 at 9 a.m.  There will be refreshments and drawings to win Goodwill gift certificates.

“It is exciting to open a new chapter for our bookstores,” said Bob Rosinsky, president and CEO of Goodwill Manasota. “The opening of the Clark bookstore continues our tradition of making books affordable to readers of all ages and of our commitment to literacy.”

The new location is nearly 50 percent larger than the previous store at 2,000 square feet.  It will feature more than 40,000 books, with more than 500 new titles stocked daily.  In addition to selling books, the store will also offer DVDs and CDs.  From spy novels to children's books, from rare books to cookbooks, Sarasota and surrounding area residents will have more than double the amount of book titles to choose from, plus there will be a children’s corner with a reading nook.

“The community is very generous donating new releases and best sellers that we are able to make available at reduced prices,” said Rosinsky.

The bookstore opened in 1999 and was the first free standing Goodwill bookstore.  It has been a successful retail arm of Goodwill and has become known for its great selection of books as well as knowledgeable and friendly staff.  The former bookstore will remain as a donation drop off center.  Goodwill has two other bookstores located in Bradenton and Venice.

With Starbucks right next-door and books and coffee going hand in hand, Goodwill is offering a promotion for the grand opening. Visitors who present a Starbucks receipt will receive a 10 percent discount off one item.  Likewise, coffee lovers will receive a 10 percent discount at Starbucks with a Goodwill bookstore receipt.

All proceeds from the bookstore and the retail stores support Goodwill’s mission of providing career services and job placement and training to the community with a focus on those with disabilities and other barriers to employment.
