St. Pete Water Shortage Order Expires

Water Shortage, AVP in St. Pete, Kids Night at the Trop, Sinkhole and Orchestra Tickets are five things you need to know today.

WATER SHORTAGE ORDER 

According St. Pete, because recent rainfall has improved water resource conditions, the Southwest Florida Water Management District has allowed their water shortage orders to expire. As a result St. Petersburg has returned to less stringent, twice-a-week watering requirements, a news release said.

SINKHOLE SWALLOWS FLA. VILLA

People across the nation were talking Monday about a sinkhole that swallowed a section of a Clermont resort villa. About 20 people were staying in the villa, located about 10 miles west of Disney World. Talk about a bad vacation!

That was just the latest case of a sinkhole opening up in Florida. In March, a sinkhole opened up beneath a Seffner home, swallowing a man as he slept in his bed, Brandon Patch reports. His body was never recovered.

ORCHESTRA TICKETS ON SALE

Single tickets for the Florida Orchestra's 2013-14 season concerts are now on sale. Included are all Tampa, St. Petersburg and Clearwater performances. The lineup includes Beethoven's Symphony No. 9 featuring the Master Chorale of Tampa Bay; aerial artists, jugglers, acrobats, strongmen and more offering dazzling feats at Cirque de la Symphony; a 40th anniversary salute to Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon;, and more.

Ticket prices range from $15 to $75 and can be purchased on the orchestra's
website at floridaorchestra.org; by phone at 727-892-3337 or 800-662-7286; and at The Florida Orchestra Ticket Center in the St. Petersburg College Building, 244 2nd Ave. N. (main floor), downtown St. Petersburg, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

AVP IN ST. PETE

Tickets are available now for the AVP St. Pete Open, the Professional Beach Volleyball tournament. The American Volleyball Professionals selected St. Pete as the only East Coast Tournament site for 2013, a news release said. The St. Petersburg Area Chamber of Commerce will serve as the only local ticket vendor. AVP St. Petersburg will take place September 13 - 15 in Vinoy Park.
