Local Boy Scouts Lose Church Support

A national vote by the Boy Scouts to accept gay youth prompted the church's decision to end its sponsorship.

A local church is withdrawing its support of a Pinellas Boy Scout troop, because of the new national policy to openly accept gay youth.

WTSP Ch. 10 reports that Calvary Chapel, in Pinellas Park, told Troop 375 that it can no longer hold meetings at the church after Jan. 1, 2014.

The announcement came after the National Council for the Boy Scouts of America voted to accept gay young people as scouts.
