Patch Minute: Birthday Bash, Dragon Boat Races, MADD Dash

From dragon boat races, to a 5K fundraiser and a all-day birthday celebration, we have a lot of family friendly events this weekend. Check out our Patch Minute for details.

Gulfport

Who loves cake? I know I do! Stop by the annual Birthday Bash this Saturday from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. at the Gulfport Historical Museum. The event will feature antiques appraisals, guided trolley tours, mullet toss, children's games, a sidewalk art contest and more! St. Pete

Come out to downtown St. Pete where tradition meets the Tampa Bay! For the first time ever in St. Petersburg you can watch dragon boat races. The event is free, just come out between 9:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. at Poynter Park. The boats will race along the USF ST. Petersburg waterfront. The dragon boats will be decorated in Chinese tradition. Did you know? Dragon boat racing has been around for more than 2,000 years.

The Beaches

Who doesn't love a walk on the beach? Why not walk for a cause this Friday. Join the MADD Dash 5K at Indian Rocks Beach at 6 p.m. The MADD Dash is a run organized by the Mothers Against Drunk Drivers. Proceeds from the event will go to support the group and their programs.

People will be allowed to watch along the route, which starts the 17th Avenue Beach Park, at and join in with festivities that include a mini-taste and a safety fair.

For those looking for something more leisurely, there's also the Walk like MADD that is going on at the same time.
