St. Pete to March Against Monsanto

The St. Pete March Against Monsanto begins at noon Saturday at City Hall.

Unhappy with what chemicals/ingredients are going into food, and what the public does not know about what goes into food, a March Against Monsanto rally is planned for Oct. 12 in downtown St. Petersburg.

The march begins at noon on the steps of the St. Petersburg City Hall.

"I feel Monsanto threatens their generation’s health, fertility and longevity," said Tami Monroe Canal, lead organizer of the international event, in a news release. "I couldn't sit by idly, waiting for someone else to do something.”

"Our mission is to spread information and create awareness, locally and globally. We want people to be informed about the important issue of concern over GMO’s and the importance of having choices available," March Against Monsanto said in a statement.

On May 25 more than a thousand protesters marched through St. Pete for the initial march of the worldwide event.

Marches are taking places across the world Saturday. Other Florida marches include Gainesville, Key West, Sarasota, Orlando, Maples, Miami, Tampa, Venice and Tallahassee
