5 Things You Need to Know Today: Celebrating Kids Book Week

Mayor Bill Foster will read to children and host a spaghetti supper, while the Rays host the Jays and Moms are celebrated at the Hilton.

1.) Children's Book Week: It's Children's Book Week, and the city is celebrating this very worthwhile endeavor with a spaghetti supper and reading by Mayor Bill Foster. The dinner is free, but any adults need to be accompanied by a child to enter. The dinner starts at 6 p.m. and takes place at the James Weldon Johnson Branch Library, 1059 18th Ave. S.

2.) Rays vs. Jays: Only 2.5 games behind the Yankees for first place in the AL East, the Rays host the Toronto Blue Jays at the , beginning at 6:40 p.m. And the Rays will be welcoming back third-baseman Evan Longoria, who has been out injured since the first week of the season. 3.) Subs and Coffee: Two new eating and drinking places will hold a grand opening today at 10:30 a.m. Firehouse Subs, 10490 Roosevelt Blvd, and Mocha Vida, 10468 Roosevelt Blvd. will hold a combined opening party. Members of the City Council are scheduled to attend.

4.) Mother's Day Expo: Stuck for a Mother's Day gift? Then the at the Hilton St. Pete is the place to go today, beginning at 6 p.m. at the St. Pete Hilton. This second-annual gala is sponsored by the Working Women of Tampa Bay and features spa sessions, wine tastings and lots more. Call mom and bring her along for an early gift. It's only $5 to get in, free for members of the Working Women group.

5.)  Start the Day Right: With another beautiful sunny day on tap, why not start with some outdoor exercise at? There's muscle sculpting at 9 a.m. and hoop dancing at 10. Both programs charge small fees to participate, less if you buy a package or monthly rate.
