5 Things You Need to Know Today: Harry Potter Countdown

The Main Library offers a Potter film and party, in anticipation of the new release.

1.) Harry Potter Fever: The final “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows” movie opens Friday, but young fans can ease the wait by attending the very first movie at 4 p.m. today at the , 3745 9th Ave. North. There’s a Harry Potter party after the film, from 6:30-8 p.m. at the library. There will be games, discussions, even a costume contest. Call 727-892-5296 for more information.

2.) Free Movies for Kids: This is a great day to keep the kids cool by watching free movies. First, there’s “How to Train Your Dragon,” at 10 a.m. at the  theater in downtown St. Pete. Then at 2 p.m.,  , 3745 9th Ave., shows “Yogi Bear.” Both films are free to kids and their adult chaperones.

3.) Worldwide Zoo: The instrumental band Worldwide Zoo plays tonight at 9:30 at The Local 662, 662 Central Ave. The show begins at 9:30. Admission is $10.

4.) All-Star Game: Tonight is the MLB All-Star Game from Chase Field in Phoenix. If you're looking for the Rays representatives at the game, you'll have to look closely. Pitchers James Shields and David Price were both named, but backed out. Outfielder Matt Joyce is the team's lone rep for the summer classic, which starts at 8 and is being televised on Fox.

5.) Gas Prices Up: Is the price of gas at the pump still going up? According to tampagasprices.com, it rose by about 14 cents nearly overnight! Follow the price changes.
