Beer fans, the third annual St. Petersburg Oktoberfest takes over Central Avenue in the Grand Central District this weekend.

On Friday, "homebrewers" will compete in a challenge for the best beer from 7 - 10 p.m. at the Morean Center for Clay at the Old Train Station, 420 22nd St. S.

Brewers will compete in one of these four categories: Brown Ale, Spiced/Pumpkin beer, German Hefeweizen, Oktoberfest, or Stout. Prizes and recognition will be given to brewers who receive the highest score in each category, a news release said.

Saturday, Oktoberfest becomes a street festival along Central Avenue from 5 - 10 p.m. where you can taste your favorite brew and grab a bite to eat while jamming out to some live music.

The John Kelly Band, Kelly owns and operates Hideaway Cafe, will be performing Friday night while Damon Fowler, the Bobby Lee Rodgers trio and Serotonic perform on Saturday.

You can purchase your tickets to Friday, Saturday or both days online at stpeteoktoberfest.com/tickets. Friday tickets are $45 and Saturday is $20. A combo ticket for both days is $55.
