The Go Go’s, Chris Tucker Head to Mahaffey

An all-star lineup of shows is coming to the Mahaffey Theater over the next few months and we’ve got the scoop on when and where to get your tickets.

Escape from the heat of the summer with a chill night of stand up comedy from Chris Tucker or dance the night away with The Go Go’s. The Mahaffey Theater has your ticket to a few of the summer and fall’s most entertaining shows.

Check out the lineup below, as tickets for of the upcoming events are already up for grabs or go on sale tomorrow.

  • Friday, August 3rd- Chris Tucker

The Rush Hour film star has a hefty background in stand up comedy. As a performer on Def Comedy Jam in the early ‘90s, Tucker went on to play a variety of roles that all had one thing in common: humor. According the Mahaffey website, Tucker is “hailed as one of the funniest comics in the industry.” Tucker’s “Guess Who’s Back” Tour will make a stop at St. Pete’s Mahaffey Theater in August. The show starts at 7:30 p.m. and tickets go on sale Friday, July 6th at noon.

  • Sunday, September 16th- Chris Isaak 

Coming to the Mahaffey in September is soul rocker, Chris Isaak. His last visit to the ‘Burg was at the 2011 Taste of Pinellas festival. Isaak celebrates his new album, due in October, with a tour that combines fan’s long time favorites with his new material. On the Mahaffey Theater's website, Isaak talks about the new album, saying: “You gotta listen to the original ones they're classics they're awesome but you can have fun with them. These guys discovered this music for us and we had to rediscover it. There's no way to do it exactly like they did it, so you've gotta give a little bit of your own take on it." Isaak hits the Mahaffey stage at 7 p.m. Tickets are available online.


  • Wednesday, September 19th- The Go Go’s

‘80s pop sensation, The Go Go’s, return to the stage after three decades of successes. The group of five from California has created their own staying place in the music industry. Hits like “Our Lips Are Sealed” and “We Got the Beat” are memorable melodies, even today. The Mahaffey writes that The Go Go’s put on shows that “continue to deliver every bit of the raw energy of their now-legendary punk beginnings, tempered with the wisdom of three decades of pop perfection.” Tickets for The Go Go’s show are available now, online.

  • Saturday, October 6th- A Celebration of Harry Belafonte: A Harlem Renaissance Event

The Studio@620 and The Mahaffey Theater Foundation proudly present the launching of the year-long celebration of the Harlem Renaissance. The Tampa Bay initiative was developed by The Studio@620. It explores the artistic, cultural and social history of this early 20th century new Negro movement. The evening, which starts at 8 p.m., will include a commissioned celebration in dance, music and song and video montages. Tickets for this one-night-only performance go on sale Friday, July 6, noon and you can purchase them online.


  • Sunday, November 11th- BETWEEN US by the Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company

Now in its 29th year, the company that shaped the evolution of contemporary dance, performs its breathtaking modern dance BETWEEN US at the Mahaffey Theater in St. Petersburg. Showcasing rarely available pieces from the company’s repertoire created over a decade-long span, beginning in the late ‘80s, BETWEEN US focuses on the bond between people, painting intriguing portraits with simple, beautiful dances. Tickets for this one-night-only performance (starting at 7 p.m.) go on sale Friday, July 6 at noon.
