Weekend Planner: Kenny Rogers, Foghat Keeping '70s Music Alive

Both are coming to St. Petersburg this weekend. Rogers to the Mahaffey and Foghat to Jannus Live.

1.) Music and Movies in the Park: . There will be music from local musicians before the show, at 6 p.m. Admission is free. This is a weekly feature for the rest of October.

2.) Kenny Rogers at the Mahaffey: He knows when to hold 'em and when to fold 'em and Kenny Rogers is far from giving up. Into his sixth decade of performing at the Mahaffey Theatre in downtown St. Petersburg.

3.) Simon and Garfunkel Tribute: A. J. Swearingen and Jonathan Beedle will recreate the early magic of the famous folk duo Friday night at the Palladium. The will be begin at 8 p.m. Tickets are $22.50 in advance and $25 on the day of the show.

4.) Foghat at Jannus Live: Forty years ago, Foghat was one of dozens of British bands that turned up their guitars and boogied out on blues-rock classics like "Fool for the City." . But before you put on your best black concert T and head downtown, you need to know this: This Foghat has a different singer, different lead guitar player and bassist. Only drummer Roger Earl is an original. The others -- Dave Peverett and Rod Price -- are long dead. Tickets are $20.

5.) Oktoberfest Time: The , with plenty of food and beer for sale, begins Saturday at 5 in the Grand Central District of downtown St. Petersburg. Meanwhile the World of Beer is having its own WOBtoberfest on Saturday, also beginning at 5 p.m.
