St. Pete Walmart Hiring Center Set to Open

Officials with the world's largest retailer look to fill 95 full and part-time jobs for the Midtown Walmart.

When Sweetbay closed its doors for good in Midtown earlier this year, city officials began feverishly looking to lure another grocer to the Tangerine Plaza.

In September Mayor Bill Foster announced that a Walmart Neighborhood Market would be taking its place and bringing with it 95 new jobs.

"I am very pleased to welcome the Walmart Neighborhood Market and am grateful for Walmart's commitment to St. Petersburg and Midtown," Foster said in September. "It has been a pleasure working with Walmart and their executives to ensure that Midtown has a full service, fresh grocery store that provides great value and service to their customers."

Monday, the hiring center for the Walmart Neighborhood Market opens.

At 10 .m. Monday, Foster and other city officials will be on hand as the hiring center opens. The center is located adjacent to the Midtown Family Resources Center at 1201 22nd St. S.

Following a brief ceremony, the center will open for job applicants.

The new Walmart Neighborhood Market is tentatively scheduled to open this winter.
