Update: For doughnut lovers, Palm Harbor's loss is St. Petersburg's gain.

Thursday, Sept. 26, the "hot now" sign of Krispy Kreme Doughnuts will be lit for the first time at 6 a.m. at 9100 4th St. N.

“We are extremely excited to bring this newly constructed and updated shop to our St. Petersburg area doughnut and coffee fans, ” says Stuart Brown, VP of Operations for Golf Florida Holdings, Inc., in a news release.

Krispy Kreme moved to St. Pete from its location at 32130 U.S. Highway 19 N in Palm Harbor.

"We would like to thank you for your patronage over the years and hope you will visit us at the new location," says a letter hanging on the door from Stuart Brown, vice president.

The letter cites impending traffic changes for planned construction between Clearwater and Palm Harbor on U.S. Highway 19 as the reason Krispy Kreme is looking to bring business to St. Petersburg.

The letter does not indicate a desire to stay in North Pinellas, but it doesn't rule out a future location in the middle of the county.

"We are continually looking for a replacement site in the mid-county area and hope to have it up very soon," the letter says.

St. Pete, are you excited for Krispy Kreme Doughnuts?
