Powerball Peaks: $320 Million

More people are playing Powerball as the jackpot hits a whopping $320 million.

The Powerball jackpot hit outer space this week, climbing to $320 million, appearing to defy gravity and enticing more folks to purchase tickets.

The drawing is Wednesday night. Are you betting on becoming a 1-percenter?

On Tuesday, the jackpot climbed to $320 million from $305 million over the weekend, after no one took home the loot.

It is the fourth largest jackpot in Powerball history, according to lottery officials.

The jackpot increased because so many people are buying tickets, The Philadelphia Inquirer reports. The cash lump sum equates to $213.3 million, according to the Inquirer.

The Inquirer puts the jackpot's rise in perspective:

In just one week, the top annuity prize, payable in 30 yearly checks, has risen by $108 million.

If this one rolls over, expect a new Powerball record, possibly shattering the $365 million annuity hit eight Nebraska food-plant workers in February 2006.

That one paid $177.3 million in cash.

Two Floridians won $1 million in Saturday's drawing — one in Tallahassee and another in Auburndale, according to Florida Lottery.

More than 138,000 Florida players won between $4 and $10,000 in the Saturday, August 11, Powerball draw.

The multi-state lottery game is sold in Florida and 43 other states and districts across the United States. Powerball is a product of the Multi-State Lottery Association.

Saturday's winning numbers were 04-13-39-46-5 and the Powerball was 01.
