Square 1 Burger & Bar is known for creating a fun atmosphere with award-winning burgers. Creative Loafing awarded Square 1 with the “Best Portobello Burger” in the bay, and Tampa Bay Times critic, Laura Reiley penned Square 1 as having the “best burger in Tampa Bay.”
Owners Joanie Corneil, Bill Shumate and Ray Leich are celebrating their five-year anniversary of Square 1 Burgers & Bar’s first location at 3701 N. Henderson Boulevard in Tampa along with a big announcement.
A sixth location is set to open this spring in St. Petersburg. It will be the first Square 1 Burgers & Bar in Pinellas County, located at 3942 Tyrone Blvd.
“Despite the downturn, the brand’s growth has outpaced the economic recovery,” said Joanie Corneil in a press release. “It’s a testament to our commitment to quality and value and never being afraid to expose our customers to new and unique flavor concepts.”
Square 1 Burgers & Bar is the brainchild of restaurateurs Joanie Corneil and Bill Shumate. In 2006, they began developing a new concept for a burger restaurant in Tampa and named it “Square 1 Burgers & Bar.” Their flagship store opened in 2008 with four other stores following in Sarasota, Ft. Myers and Brandon.
The restaurant features an extensive menu including 100% angus burgers, chicken, turkey, vegetarian, and more exotic selections like turkey, duck, crab, venison, kobe, buffalo and salmon burgers.
