Wines for Easter Brunch, Lunch and Dinner

Everyone celebrates Easter in a different way. Some folks like to go to church first thing in the morning and others go at dusk. Still others like to enjoy the ease of the day and the promise of a new spring season. Regardless of your favorite way to commemorate the Easter holiday, one thing we all like to do is eat. And no matter the type of meal, there’s a wine that will make the day all the more memorable and enjoyable.

Brunch – Who doesn’t love a Sunday brunch? What other type of meal can bring Eggs Benedict, shrimp cocktail and blueberry bagels together on one plate? The best pairing for a brunch has bubbles in it: Bellenda Prosecco Brut or Carpene Malvolti Prosecco Brut (both at about $15 per bottle).

The Bellenda Prosecco is subtle with green apple and lots of fine bursting bubbles that enliven the palate. Its dry yet fruity flavors make it the perfect fit for a table filled with contrasting flavors from sweet to earthy and salty to spicy. Blend with one part orange juice to make a mimosa you won’t soon forget.

With flavors of pear and banana, the Carpene Malvolti Prosecco is what to pour for a brunch that is brimming with more lunchtime fare. This aromatic brut sparkling wine has fine fruity aromas that will bring out the best in smoked salmon, charcuterie and cheese and even sushi. Blend with one part pomegranate juice and half part Cointreau for a delicious to drink and beautiful to behold cocktail.

Lunch – This meal can comprise of anything. Let’s just say that your lunch will be in-between laid back and formal and you plan on serving a ham with salad, scalloped potatoes and a lemon cake for dessert.  Sounds like you need a bottle of the Standing Sun Wines Grenache Rosé ($20).

This is a limited production wine that will take your palate to places it has never been before. Fermented in 50% stainless steel and 50% neutral French oak for seven months, the Standing Sun Wines Grenache Rosé has vibrant color with mouth-watering hints of fresh strawberry and watermelon coupled with just a tad of spice. You will love how this wine complements your ham weather you honey glaze it, bake it with pineapple and brown sugar or serve it smoked.

Dinner – This meal does have a tendency to bring out the hectic in everyone, no matter what the reason or the season. But relax; you’ve got it under control. Rack of lamb – check. Mint, capers, garlic and other herbs and spices – check. Leek and potato gratin – check. Roasted asparagus – check. Wine – Highflyer Centerline.

The Highflyer Centerline ($20) is a proprietary red blend of Syrah (53%), Petit Sirah (36%), Zinfandel (8%), and Grenache (3%). The aromas are chock full of black cherry, chocolate and spicy notes that jump at you from the glass. The palate is full and rich with lush tannins, fresh berries and rounded out by good acidity and integrated oak. Your family and friends won’t get up from the dinner table until the last morsel is eaten and the last drop is “drunk.”

Happy Easter!
