25th Green Thumb Festival Is This Weekend

ST. PETERSBURG - The Green Thumb Festival -- St. Petersburg's annual Arbor Day and Earth Day celebration -- returns for a 25th year to Walter Fuller Park, 7891 26th Avenue North on April 30 and May 1 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The free family festival features horticultural and environmental exhibits, programs and seminars highlighting ways to landscape effectively, conserve natural resources, recycle, and improve the environment.  

Mayor Bill Foster will be on hand to receive the Tree City USA award and present the Green Thumb Annual Awards along with special recognition for festival organizers, vendors and participants on Saturday, April 30, at 1 p.m. on the main stage.  

Highlights also include 2,000 trees for sale for $3, free pine seedlings, a Silent Plant Auction, Plant Diagnostic Clinic, Grow and Share programs, and a Children's Plant Fair, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., both days.  

The Garden Club of St. Petersburg celebrates the 25th Anniversary of the Green Thumb Festival with a Standard Flower Show presented by the Florida Federation of Garden Clubs, District VIII. 

Hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday; and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday in the Walter Fuller Recreation Center.  

Kid's Crafts, Food Court and entertainment for the whole family round out this popular weekend event. Volunteers are also needed.
