5 Things You Need to Know Today: Vote for St. Pete Bagel

Today's the last day to vote for St. Pete Bagel as a Creative Loafing Best of the Bay winner.

1.) A New and Familar Face: , replacing Julie Janssen, who was fired by the school board and departs this week.

Picnic (and Music) in the Park: The Saturday Morning Market has wrapped up its summer season in , but the city must like the idea of using the downtown park for something more than a gathering place for homeless. As of today, it's the home of the new Wednesday Picnic and Music series, running through September. There will be music from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Visitors are encouraged to bring lunch or buy it from one of the many nearby restaurants (never go wrong with a or a .

5.) Let's Paint Swings at USF St. Pete: Swings Tampa Bay will have a booth at USFSP's "Get on Board Day" for anyone to hand-paint their own swings. Students and faculty also can swing on swings around campus. Swings Tampa Bay is a community-building organization that hangs hand-painted swings around the Bay area. The goal is to encourage community interaction and fun.
