Mayor's Night Out Returns

Mayor's Night Out, Dog Swim, RNC Speakers, Wynonna Judd and Patch Newsletters are five things you need to know today.

1. Back to school is just around the corner and so is the return of ‘Mayor’s Night Out,’ in St. Petersburg.  Residents are invited to share thoughts, ideas, or concerns one-on-one with Mayor Foster and city staff at Bay Vista Center, 7000 Fourth St. S. on Thursday, August 9 at 6 p.m.

2. Bring your dog for a day of leash-free swim and play in the pool on Saturday, Aug. 25 at Fossil Park Pool, 6739 Martin Luther King Jr. St. N.  Choose from three swim sessions: from 9 - 10:30 a.m., 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., or 1 - 2:30 p.m. Register at start time with proof of dog(s) current vaccination. Donations of clean towels, Nylabones, bleach, dish soap, blankets, trash bags, and newspapers will be accepted on behalf of the S.P.C.A. Admission: $5 per dog, per session (humans free)

3. On Tuesday, the RNC announced former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul, former Sen. Rick Santorum and Oklahoma Gov. Mary Fallin would be speaking at the 2012 RNC Convention.The convention is Aug. 27-30 at the Tampa Bay Times Forum. No times or dates have been set for the speakers.

4. Five-time Grammy award winner Wynonna Judd combines her smoky vocals and powerful stage presence to bring “Wynonna’s Rockin’ Christmas” to The Mahaffey on Friday, December 21 at 8 p.m. According to the Mahaffey, she will be joined on stage with her longtime band, The Big Noise, the fiery redhead blends a mix of classic Christmas favorites and some of her biggest hits. Tickets for the holiday performance are on sale now online
