Ten Percent Turnout Already for August Primary

1. On Sunday, the Pinellas County Supervisor of Elections announced that between early voting and mail-in ballots for the Aug. 14 primary that there is already a 10.8 percent voter turn out. Through Sunday 235 people have gone to early voting locations while 65,035 people have submitted mail-in ballots. 

2. At 11:45 a.m. today on the steps of City Hall, members of the People's Budget Review and City Council will ask for more citizen input on the city's budget. With the September budget public hearing looming, the People's Budget Review has collected 4,200 surveys about what the public thinks about the city's budget. 

3. Join St. Petersburg Preservation later this month on a walking tour of historic St. Petersburg. At 7 p.m. on Aug. 22 those joining the tour will get a chance to see some for the cities best 1920's boom era architecture, find out how a small town created one for the largest waterfront parks in the country, and hear stories about how sunshine, bathing beauties, and sports made St. Pete the place to go. The tour is free, but there is a $5 suggested donation. 

4. The Southwest Florida Water Management District voted to let emergency Modified Phase II water shortage restrictions expire last week for the Tampa Bay Area. The Water Management District found significant improvements in aquifer and river levels as a result of Tropical Storm Debby and regular summer rains. The area remains under a Modified Phase I water shortage order until December 31, but the irrigation schedule returns to two-days- per-week. Residents may water before 10 a.m. or after 4 p.m.
