Two Injured in Wrong-Way Crash on I-275, Authorities Say

Both drivers were seriously injured in a Sunday morning crash north of Fourth Street North on I-275, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

A car was reportedly traveling the wrong-way Sunday morning on I-275 just north of Fourth Street North when it collided with another vehicle.  Both drivers were transported to Bayfront Medical Center with serious injuries, according to a Florida Highway Patrol media release.

Jessica Lauren Hicks, 21, of Plant City, was traveling north on I-275 in the southbound inside lane around 6 a.m. Jon Zimmerman, 29, of Illinois, saw Hicks' vehicle approaching him as he headed south in the southbound lane and he swerved unsuccessfully to avoid a collision, authorities report.

After the vehicles crashed into each other Zimmerman's 2013 Nissan rotated and crashed into a chain link fence off of the roadway. Hicks' 2012 Scion came to a rest in an outside grass shoulder area, according to FHP.

Both drivers were transported to Bayfront Medical Center in serious condition, authorities report.

Authorities do not yet know where Hicks got on the highway. The accident is still under investigation.
