Sunrise Sale 40th Anniversary!

This year marks the 40th anniversary of the blockbuster summer sale which has been featured in the New York Times and often referred to as “St. Petersburg’s Largest Pajama Party.”  With a nod to the event’s start in 1973, the 2013 event will be accentuated by a celebration of the 1970’s, with special discounts for attendees sporting tie-dyes and 70’s garb along with the traditional pajamas.

Beginning at 6:43 a.m. and continuing throughout the day, more than 30 downtown St. Petersburg merchants and businesses will offer doorbuster sales and special offers. “The landscape of downtown retail has changed much over the last 40 years,” said Tami Simms, President of the Downtown Business Association (DBA). “Our member businesses span well beyond Beach Drive, and our goal is to promote all of them.” To that end, the DBA has commissioned the Downtown Looper Trolley to provide free transportation for shoppers to visit participating merchants from 7:00 – 10:00 a.m.

As part of the event that sees downtown filled at dawn with yellow flags, bright balloons and eager shoppers, the DBA will be collecting pantry items and paper products for Ronald McDonald House ®. There will be free birthday cake at the main tent, and many merchants offer coffee and tasty treats. The event is open to the public, and maps will be available to guide shoppers to participating businesses. Anxious shoppers can follow the Sunrise Sale announcements on Facebook at www.facebook.com/StPeteDowntownBiz. Special offers will be highlighted leading up to the event.
