Council Waffles, Schorsch Threatens, Sullivan Tap Dances, Foster Skates, Stop The LENS Worries

I thought when the last season of Dallas on TBS ended my summer would be relatively emotionally easy.

I really like JR.

The saga of The LENS would have made a great summer replacement.

This story line has everything. Drama, deceit, treachery, lawyers trying to out lawyer each other, court room drama, TV pitchmen, politicians, big money, artists, more lawyers, architects, restaurateurs, political hacks, concerned citizens, petitions, more petitions, public uprising, angry citizens, political action committees, mystery donors, not enough money to build it, funding request shrouded in mystery on hold, demonstrations, political candidates in trouble and more.

This thing is a made for TV movie script writers' dream.

What it is not, is a good way to run a government.

There is no doubt that the public has become incensed about the LENS. You just don't get 40,000 petitions signed if people are not upset. I don't think they are as involved with the saga of the LENS as much as they just don't like the thing.

Concerned Citizens would be better served by getting the item on the ballot with ballot language and a title that cannot be challenged by the latest PAC, the architect or anyone else wanting to go the legal route, and then work on informing the public about the ballot.

VOTE YES (fill in the blank) will work.

If you have to leave the word LENS out, leave it out.

There is no good story for the LENS. It simply doesn't work here. It is ugly, impractical, not in keeping with the City or it's history.

It will fail on its own merits. In addition, those who would claim to want to move the city "forward" are much more interested in getting their own way over the will of the public than they are moving anything forward.

No matter what you call it, the LENS, the Big Bed Pan, the Toilet Seat, Side Walk To Nowhere, Icon  all that is really needed is a campaign that says to Stop The LENS vote YES on ballot question Number (fill in the blank).

Do not for one minute think the public is not on to this one.

They know who the politicians that have tried to screw them over on this one are, they know who the soap peddlers are, they know who panders to the powerful, they know they did not get heard in the Pier Task force report, they know who has not supplied leadership, they know this thing will cost more than its supporters say, they know they don' like it and they know how to read a ballot that is fairly constructed. 

The LENS cannot win on its merit because it has none, it can only win on deceit and legal treachery.

Put it on the ballot in the most proper legal form, educate the public on the ballot. That is the approach that scares the hell out of the few elite supporters of the LENS.

Just remember:  Can Stop the LENS Win and Lose In the Same Breath?
