Meeting Debby at My Favorite Beach Bars

When Debby arrived at my favorite beach bars, she put on quite a show.

Now that things have calmed down a bit I thought I would swing by a couple of my beach hangouts and see how they fared.

I started at Caddy's on Sunset Beach. The beachfront is mostly gone. The building is damaged but not too badly. There were a few die-hard beach bar goers inside having a few and some surfers checking out the narrow but tall waves. Beach erosion is really bad. The high tide has made it to the sea oats line.

On down Sunset Beach, the erosion is bad, as you would expect. Some sea oats have been lost, and the beach itself is significantly smaller.

Next stop, one of my favorites, Woody's on St. Pete Beach. Located on the turn of the pass, Woody's has taken a beating. The west, southwest wind has pushed big waves squarely on the seawall at Woody's.

Both parking lots are badly damaged; the building is OK but has taken a good pounding from the surf.

Inside some loyal regulars and a bartender are watching spectacular wave show breaking on the patio.
