Three Weeks and St. Pete Voters Are Waiting

Maybe this is more complicated than I think. After all the only person to respond so far is a brain surgeon.

Three weeks ago, I posted: It's Time To Go On The Record.

I am getting a lot of calls, questions on the street and e-mails about why this or that candidate has not responded to the seven simple questions below.

1. Should the LENS come to a referendum, will you support voting to stop the project?

2. Do you support closing the Pier?

3. Will you move to end the red light camera program?

4. Do you support the Rays talking to anyone in Pinellas County or Hillsborough County about a stadium site?

5. Do you support the neighborhood association concept, and what will you do to specifically help rebuild this City asset?

6. Do you support hiring a new Police Chief?

7. What specifically will you do to begin to reduce crime and improve the quality of life in South St. Pete?

Dr. David McKalip responded almost immediately, but so far none of the other candidates have seen fit to answer these seven questions, many of which are  obviously on the minds of St. Pete voters.

Several candidates have indicated responding is on their "to do list" but so far there are no answers.

Part of the problem may be that McKalip's answers are, for the most part, just common sense and pretty much in line with what many of the voters are thinking.

Deviating from those positions much could kind of make one stand out, and attacking them might be a bit foolhardy.

Next time your paid political operative advises you to wait before you react in social media, remind him/her there just may be value in being first.

Maybe the problem is the questions are pretty much yes or no and not a lot of room for political double speak.

We have seen where the political double speak gets us in this current batch of City Council members. Some good old fashioned "yes" and "no" answers would be nice, but you could also add a few words about how you might do some of these things.

More and more people are waiting for the answers. They are not too impressed by how much money you've raised, although apparently they are a bit concerned about where some of it is coming from. They really don't care what the big name Democrats, or Republicans-turned-Democrat or big name Republicans think. They would just like to see your responses to these seven questions.

Just click the link above, have your campaign operative carefully cut and paste your well-crafted yes or no answer in the little box, and click submit.

Maybe this is more complicated than I think. After all the only person to respond so far is a brain surgeon.
