Kriseman praises Walmart announcement, criticizes Foster on lack of leadership

News Release from Kriseman Campaign

St. Petersburg - St. Petersburg mayoral frontrunner Rick Kriseman praised today's announcement of a Walmart Neighborhood Market opening at the site of the closedSweetbay Supermarket in Tangerine Plaza.

"I am pleased to hear of Walmart's decision to open a grocery store at Tangerine Plaza," said Kriseman. "The residents of Midtown have been without a grocery store for eight months and a Walmart Neighborhood Market will be a great asset to this community."

Kriseman also criticized Mayor Bill Foster on his lack of leadership on the issue.

"The residents of Midtown should not have been without a grocery store at Tangerine Plaza for this long," he said. "Sweetbay officials warned Mr. Foster about their struggling Midtown store nearly a year before the company made a formal announcement. As Mayor, I would have begun the process of recruiting another grocery store that same day. This is unfortunate and speaks to the lack of leadership coming out of City Hall."
