Matt Florell Takes another Public Beating this Time Thanks To Jim Kennedy

How welcome are your opinions at St. Pete City Council?

At Thursdays Public Safety and Infrastructure meeting Staff and City Council once again did everything short of denigrating Matt Florell's family linage to make it clear that his efforts on red light cameras and short yellows are "appreciated" but sure not welcome.

Joe Kubicki snipped at and denigrated Mr. Florell, his methods and his information, even though the information Florell uses comes from the City's own data base. Kubicki used snide remarks and innuendo to attempt to belittle Mr. Florell personally and his findings.

Kriseman needs to get on this one now. If the Mayor wants the public to work with him to identify problems and move forward, this type of staff attack on a citizen is going to make that cooperation tough to come by.

In my thirty years with the City I don't think I can ever remember a time, including Kathleen Fords' time on Council when a sitting Council member was as rude and arrogant to a citizen as Jim Kennedy was toward Mr. Florell.

Bullying at its very best.

Apparently in Mr. Kennedy's view you, as a citizen, need to be an expert if you plan to challenge anything the City does otherwise you are subject to Mr. Kennedy's wrath.

This type of behavior on the part of City Council members will cause citizens to be reluctant to come to City Council and will isolate the Council from controversial information that they need to make good decisions.

Jim Kennedy owes Matt Florell an apology during a Council meeting and on television, and Council Chair Dudley should strongly consider some form of sanction to make sure this open form of personal attack from the dais does not happen again.

The Kriseman Administration would likely be perfectly fine with City Council becoming the object of public distrust and unhappiness. It is Chairman Bill Dudley's job to make sure that does not happen.

Kennedy is the greatest bloviator of all time. I can't wait for the day that he hits the bricks and crawls back into whatever hole he crawled out of....

I remember reading that if the state is recieving Federal funding to build roadways that a profit can not be made using red light cameras. May be worth looking into. This tactic and info has been used to avoid paying fines in Virginia. As soon as iis brought up the ticcket is dismissed.

Kathleen Ford simply had no patience for blathering idiots. What she always appreciated was a well spoken, thoughtful and engaged citizen. Mr. Kennedy is a blathering idiot.

According to my math, Mr. Kennedy owes the taxpayers roughly $700,000 for his share of blatantly and arrogantly wasting our tax money and spitting in the faces of the Citizens who spoke at Council, the consistent polls, not one, but TWO ballot initiatives and a lawsuit, only to blindly push forward with his beloved Lens. Oh, but refunding a few questionable RLC tickets is out of the question. This Council, like the last, is already out of control.

Keep up the good work Matt. You know you are doing the right thing. And so do we. I will take your public input over these "elected" and "expert" officials any day of the week.

Kennedy is threatened by the truth so he attacks the persons who reveal the truth. The big truth is that Kennedy is part of the arrogant elite political class who know nothing but claim to havge all the answers. His answer is usually this "do what I say, sit down and shut up".

Kennedy's disdain for Public Comment was clearly shown in the past. Before the Election! I didn't vote for him because of this. The Voters are to blame for ignoring the obvious. Can anyone say "Recall Election"?

Here's my 2 cents. IF red light cameras are REALLY about safety and not about revenue, my suggestion is that we implement a delayed green light like is done in Chicago. A few seconds of a red light in both directions insures that the intersection will be cleared before cross-traffic enters the intersection. This is especially effective in pedestrian-heavy intersections to allow for some of our more senior citizens to safely cross. It costs virtually nothing to implement and would achieve the "public safety" solution.
