Obama Rocks State of the Union, Biden is a Boss, and Cory Remsburg is Our Hero by Ayele B. Hunt

At last night’s State of the Union, President Obama stood firm in his oratorical prowess. Love him or dislike him, Obama has a way with words. It’s nothing short of brilliant. With that said, the President’s speech outlined a progressive agenda for 2014. He championed minimum wage, touched on gender based income equality, rallied for comprehensive immigration reform, advocated for diplomatic strength over military action, asserted the reality of Climate Change, and reaffirmed his intention to close Guantanamo Bay. Along the way, Obama shocked House Speaker John Boehner with a shout out, Vice-President Biden reminds us he’s Joe Biden, GOP makes a reminder of their own Duck Dynasty guest, and everyone rose in humility to honor Sgt. First Class Cory Remsburg. The takeaway from last night: President Obama is ready to take action. He wears the boldness of a President that never has to run for office again. He intends to use his last two years to move the country forward with or without Congress. The era of partisan gridlock and holding the country hostage is over. In the words of the late great Nina Simone, it’s a new day, a new dawn, and Obama’s feeling good about moving America forward and so should the rest of us. In the end, as it was in the beginning, Obama can’t make these changes alone. It’s up to each one of us to use our voice, stand up for change in our community, and hold our elected representatives accountable. In short, we must each remember and own the fact that collectively: We Are the United States of America. President Obama dropped dimes last night and America picked them up.
