5 Things to Know: Jan. 26

City council to discuss pier jury ranking, Early voting ends Saturday, Foreclosure Registry for St. Pete, Patch Newsletter and G. Love at Jannus are five things you need to know today.

1. Last week the St. Petersburg as the top pier design to replace the existing pier. Today, Mayor Bill Foster and members of the city council will hold a workshop about the jury's decision and whether or not to move forward with the process. The first reading of staff's approval is set for Feb.

2. A staple of live music in St. Pete has seemingly been a trip from G. Love each year. On Friday at Jannus Live, G. Love & Special Sauce will be jamming out on the stage. Gates open at 8 p.m. Tickets are $26. According to the Jannus website, "G. Love has enchanted the courtyard so many times with his easy-funky blend of hip-hop and blues that we’ve lost count."

3. The city of St. Petersburg is exploring the possibility of setting of of all city foreclosed properties. A foreclosure registry would help track those responsible for empty and abandoned properties. Another idea for cleaning up problem properties is a Top 10 list of the worst code violators.

5. Early voting for the GOP and Pinellas County municipal elections ends at 4 p.m. this Saturday. Florida is a "closed" primary state, which means only registered Republicans can vote in the GOP primary. Don't know what precinct to visit on Jan. 31, visit votepinellas.com.
