What's more patriotic than keeping informed about Florida politics?
Here's a special July 4th summary of Sunshine State politics from SaintPetersBlog.com Publisher Peter Schorsch.
The Associated Press reports that President Barack Obama and GOP contender Mitt Romey are staking out voter support in Florida, where polls suggest that the presidential race may be too close to call, giving Obama a slight edge.
"In the presidential battleground with the biggest prize, Democrat Barack Obama is focused on ratcheting up voter turnout in Florida's university towns, its Hispanic enclaves around Orlando and its Jewish communities in the south. Republican challenger Mitt Romney is working to squeeze as many votes as possible out of north Florida's conservative military bastions, the senior-heavy Gulf Coast and Miami's Cuban community.
"But their strategies to energize core supporters overlap in the central Florida swing-voting region that's key to winning the state and its 29 electoral votes. Voters along Interstate 4, which stretches from Tampa Bay to Daytona Beach, will determine the outcome if the race remains close into the fall, as expected. About 45 percent of the state's voters live in that 17-county area.
'Neither party has enough base alone, which is why those persuadable places, particularly along the I-4 corridor, are so important,' said Steve Schale, a Democrat who ran Obama's Florida campaign four years ago."
MOVEON.ORG (IN SPANISH) Slams Romney on Florida's Voter Purge
Politico's Morning Score has the scoop on MoveOn.org Political Action going on Florida TV with their first Spanish-language ad of the cycle to accuse Gov. Rick Scott of disproportionately targeting Latinos with his purge of the voter rolls and to say that Romney could benefit if Latinos are prohibited from voting. It's a five-figure buy but that will put the ad up in Miami, Orlando and Tampa from Thursday through Saturday.
Here's the translated script: "With exclusion from the voting rolls by Governor Scott, Latinos will be the most affected. And if the Latinos don't vote, Mitt Romney wins. This exclusion is not only illegal, it's also racist. Why doesn't Mitt Romney disapprove?' MoveOn has decided to make challenging voter suppression a top priority this cycle. Rick Scott Defends Opposition to Obamacare
Continuing a national media blitz Tuesday against last week's U.S. Supreme Court decision on the Affordable Care Act, Gov. Rick Scott fielded some penetrating questions from radio hosts about statements he's made since the high court ruled, reports Margie Menzel of the News Service of Florida.
Those included queries based on a PolitiFact review - the fact-checking website by the Tampa Bay Times - which awarded Scott a "pants on fire" and two "falses" for remarks he's made since the ruling.
Southwest Doing Well at Northwest
A three-year agreement that helped woo Southwest Airlines to the new Northwest Florida Beaches International Airport worked so well that the airline agreed to terminate the pact early, officials for St. Joe Co. announced Monday.
St. Joe had entered an agreement with the airline to cover up to $26 million in operating losses if traffic from the new Panama City airport proved inadequate. Southwest, which began service in 2010, accounts for more than half of the passenger totals in and out of the new facility. The airport has seen its market share grow steadily among travelers to and from the region, increasing from 9 percent in 2009 to more than 25 percent in 2012. "In every respect, the agreement with St. Joe has been a triumph," said Bob Montgomery, Southwest vice president for airport affairs, said in a statement. "It has fulfilled its mission and achieved its intended purpose." Southwest recently extended its lease agreement with the airport through 2015.

Women Will Be Back In Servitude, And Hourly Workers Will Get $2.00 Per hour God Help Us All If this Is Allowed To Happen
William Galston, a former adviser to President Bill Clinton, demonstrated a while back that if you 1) finish high school, 2) marry before having a child and 3) don't have a child until you're 20, then you almost certainly will not be poor. The statistics Galston found were stunning: Only 8 percent of people who do all three are poor. Of those who don't, a full 79 percent are. Is that so difficult? Must be, considering the number of dropouts, the number of single mothers and the number of mothers under 20. That explains the dramatically rising numbers of people on some type of govt support, the number of people not paying income tax (50% living off the other 50%). We have a president who actually encourages a welfare state - let's re-elect him and slide further down into despair!
No Jobs Pathetic Economy and Lies.......Obamma Lies non Stop..... We Need an American President next time......
Also, Obama inherited an economy that was losing more than 700,000 jobs EVERY MONTH, and we've now had at least twenty consecutive months of job growth. Not enough.. but at least it's growth! There's so many other reasons that Obama is better than anyone the GOP has these days, but I'll just add one more big one. Obama offered several compromises to reach a deal to cut the deficit, including offering $3 in spending cuts for every $1 in taxes on the richest of the rich. The GOP said no while attacking Obama and claiming he was the one refusing to compromise!!!
And this Economy is destroyed after Obammys Trillion Dollar Deficits. We need and experienced leader with a proven track record of job creating policys. We Need Mitt Romney...!! He is right for America and Will Lead like a Real President should, We Elected a Great Leader for Florida in Rick Scott.......Now lets Take care of America and Support Mitt Romney...
Again, I can’t argue if you do not finish high school, have a child without a spouse to help support the child or have a child when under twenty may make it more difficult to keep from falling into poverty. So it’s Obama who is trying to stop family planning and access to birth control? He is the one trying to cut federal aid to states for public schools? Obama is cutting Pell grants so less people can get a higher education? Obama said class size does not affect student performance? If you do not like to see people on welfare, then start backing the candidates that are trying to enact policies that lift people out of poverty. Back the candidates that are trying to re-establish a middle class that can spend money on product and services. If businesses believe there is a market they will expand and create more jobs to help take people off welfare. The Obama administration is doing that in spite of the Republican obstructionism.
1. You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity by legislating the wealthy out of prosperity. 2. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving. 3. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else. 4. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it. 5. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that is the beginning of the end of any nation.
