Best Thing I Ate This Week: Casita Taqueria

The warmed corn chips were dusted with chili powder, and came with small portions of tomato salsa and freshly made guacamole for dipping.

ST. PETERSBURG – First off, I must confess: Mexican cuisine is a weakness for me. From tacos to guacamole to salsa to burritos — I love it all.

I was thrilled when Casita Taqueria, on 4th Street North, opened its doors a few months ago.

Being on the go is part of my job, so I stopped in to grab something quick and healthy. I ordered the chips and salsa with guacamole.

The only other menu item I've sampled there is the tacos, so I noped to see how the dips panned out. The chips were warm and dusted with chili powder.

Two small cups sat on either side of the fresh basket of chips. The guacamole and tomato-based salsa were homemade. I think my favorite part was the kick from the salsa.

I was able to make out some jalepeno seeds in the mix, so I figured that must have been where the extra spice came from.

Due to the high price of avocados, guacamole is never cheap. However, Casita Taqueria handed me the whole plate for just $4.99 plus tax (it came to $5.35). I depleted the ration of chips, salsa and guac. I can’t wait to go back for more.

If you go

Casita Taqueria is at 2706 4th St. North. Phone is 727-820-4635. There is a small number of tables and room at the cozy bar, with takeout a popular choice.
