State House Candidate Bill Nobles' Horribly-Timed Press Release
I'm just not ready yet to go to war with the opponent of Rep. Jeff Brandes, but the ineptitude of the Pinellas County Democratic Party has forced my hand.
I really didn't want to start writing about Democratic State House candidate Bill Nobles yet.
It is still 15 months before the election, and I'm just not ready yet to go to war with the opponent of Rep. Jeff Brandes, but the ineptitude of the Pinellas County Democratic Party has forced my hand.
Last night, on the Sunday of Labor Day weekend, while I was at a wedding and the rest of the world was enjoying a three-day weekend, the Pinellas County Democrats breathlessly issued a press release that former State Rep. Bill Heller was endorsing Nobles in his campaign against Brandes.

That's right. Sunday night. On Labor Day weekend. A press release about the guy who was defeated by Rep. Brandes endorsing the guy who, with not much more than a slingshot, is running against Rep. Brandes.
I mean, stop the freakin' presses.

I almost had to leave the wedding I was attending to report to Brandes Campaign HQs for a special meeting to deal with the devastating news that Bill Heller, who was so interested in keeping his seat in 2010 that he went on vacation during his campaign, is now backing the guy who, according to his last campaign finance report, has raised a whopping $1,175 towards his Sisyphean bid to upset an incumbent described by PolitiFact as the most 'independent' Republican in the Florida House.
On a Sunday night. On Labor Day weekend.
If nothing else, the Pinellas Democrats' media advisory, brilliantly penned by Paul D. Starr, will go down as one of the worst-timed press releases ever issued. At least the Democrats can take comfort in that.
(Of course, if the local Democrats actually knew what they were doing, they would have already recruited a candidate for any of the other much-more-winnable seats, such as the open Senate seat being vacated by Dennis Jones.)
