More Information On the New Political Committee Campaigning to Build "The Lens"

As first reported on SaintPetersBlog, representatives of a  new organization -- The Citizens for the St. Pete Pier, Inc. -- turned in their paperwork with the City Clerk’s office late Friday afternoon to register as a political committee.

Since that first report, more details about CSPP have been obtained.

While the organization filed as The Citizens for the St. Pete Pier, Inc., the political committee will be campaigning under the banner of "Build The Pier."

On the board of CSPP, according to an email from lead organizer Jesse Landis, are "15 local young professionals." Landis also writes that the group is "already supported by some major entities and community leaders." No word on who those entities or leaders are yet.

Look for the group to roll out its official launch to the media on Monday, although it is already raising money and garnering support on its Facebook page (which is here.) CSPP also has a website at BuildThePier.com.

Beyond Landis, other young professionals involved in the organization are Lucas DeVicente and Nathan Stoneciper. Attorney Jim Moriarty is the committee's treasurer. Advising the committee, at least unofficially, is local political consultant, Johnny Bardine.

On a personal note, let me be clear that I have no attachment or involvement with this organization. While I do think we should build "The Lens", the referendum cancelling the contract with Michael Maltzan will undoubtedly pass and any effort exerted opposing it is a waste of political capital, however well-meaning.
