The purveyors of controversial red light cameras are making an appearance in Jim Kennedy’s re-election campaign for the District 2 seat on St. Petersburg City Council, not as a campaign issue — but as donors.
Kennedy received a $500 donation from Mulhill ICS, a lobbying partner of American Traffic Solutions, one of the nation’s largest manufacturers of red light cameras. He also received a $500 contribution from Platepass LLC.
Kennedy has defended the “imperfect” red light camera system during several campaign debates.

The $1,000 is almost 20% of the $5,050 Kennedy raised during the last reporting period. Kennedy has now raised a total of $11,800, while having spent $6,239.
American Traffic Solutions, Inc. (ATS) is a national provider of technology enabled business and service solutions for Road Safety Camera operations, Rental and Fleet Toll Processing and Traffic Violation Management services.

Kennedy's opponent, Lorraine Margeson, collected $790 during the latest reporting period to bring her total to $3,730. Her campaign has spent $1,220 to date.
