Arrest in Family Dollar Store Robbery

The 31-year-old suspect faces charges that include DUI manslaughter, vehicular homicide and murder in the second degree.

A 31-year-old St. Petersburg man faces multiple charges including murder in the second degree and DUI manslaughter in connection to an armed robbery and fatal crash.

Alfonso Eugene Mackey was arrested Tuesday upon his release from Bayfront Medical Center in St. Petersburg.

Mackey faces charges in connection to the March 21 armed robbery of the Family Dollar Store, a police pursuit and fatal crash. A second suspect is still at large.

He was hospitalized following the police chase and crash on March 21.

Mackey was driving a getaway car after the robbery, when he crashed into a tree. Dijon Senay Jackson, 19, of Pittsburg, PA, who was a passenger, died in the crash, police say.

St. Petersburg Police had responded to a call of an armed robbery at the Family Dollar Store at 1720 16th St. N. A customer from inside called for help and told officials two people were robbing the clerk and one of them had fired one shot during the armed robbery, according to the press release.

The suspects fled before officers arrived, according to police.

About ten minutes later, undercover detectives spotted the suspect's vehicle.

A marked police cruiser attempted to stop the suspect's vehicle in the area of
6th Avenue South and 44th Street South, but the suspect's vehicle sped away
from the marked cruiser.

Moments later, the suspect's vehicle crashed into a tree at 15th Avenue South
and 40th Street South.

Boy, this skeeze hit the trifecta. Murder, DUI manslaughter, and robbery ... and a 19 yr old who was a partner in this adventure. Shame that Dollar General, a store that moved into an iffy neighborhood was hit. Enjoy your time at county and state courtesey of my taxes.
